I saw a meme thing on FB the other day that said:

"If you have a creative mind,
you must give it something to do,
or you will not like what it decides to do."

Also now I am reading Unfuck Your Brain
and in the intro part it talks about how humans are storytellers
stories make us human, we need them to survive...
And our brains' rest mode involves storytelling, so our sleep needs dreams.

So that made me think that all the daydreaming and overthinking certain brains are extra prone to
is more of that storytelling impulse and creative energy
and it's important to give it good things to do.
Safe things, like listening to the radio maybe
instead of descending into an intense meditation about princesses or musicians or what the fuckever
and missing exits when you drive.
And nurturing things, that are creative and maybe weird,
but not harmful, to self or others.

That's definitely a thing that, like... I know?
but I don't really always know I know,
or I forget.
I think, "Oh, I don't have time to do Creative Thing, Fun Thing, etc."
because I have to Important Things.
But my brain/mind/soul/whatever isn't going to be good for Important Things and life in general without that.
It goes right along with physical self-care;
You may feel like you don't "have time" to eat or sleep or whatever but it's not really an option.
On top of that, creative mind is gonna Do A Think all the time.
If you can figure out a way to let it do some of that while you do Important Thing, great!
If not, you probably need to take breaks for creative/fun/etc. thinking.
Otherwise brain is still going to tell stories,
but they often end up being obnoxious-ass stories about pain and fear and self-loathing,
Booo!!!
And you can't avoid that entirely, but you can have a lot of control over it
if you intentionally feed your brain a lot of healthy stuff
and let it run free and tell happy, good, new stories.

A small bit of useful advice I got in a session that was ultimately less useful than it could have been suggested that it is worth drawing a sacred boundary around the things you need to prevent other things from eating. Time to create and do the Thoughts might be one of those things that needs to be promoted to the level of "if I don't do this, my spirit suffers."
