Female characters meme, quick take
May. 20th, 2013 01:41 pmSo, elliemurasaki is doing this awesome meme on female characters, that I also want to do and may start next month. But right now I'm going to try to hit all the points before I have to leave for more errands:
Day One: Favorite female lead character.
Aaaargh. It depends on who you consider a lead? Although, screw it, Aoi from The Burning City in the Spirit Binders series by Alaya Dawn Johnson, but when I answer this for real I'll probably choose one for every genre I can think of.
Day Two: Favorite supporting female character
Captain Yates from DS9. (I bet you are all shocked.)
Day Three: A female character you hated but grew to love
Hmmm. Lots. Ziyal (DS9) probably traveled the farthest.
Day Four: A female character you relate to
A lot the ones I don't like? Daisy Buchanan (The Great Gatsby), she's probably the original example, from high school.
Day Five: Favorite female character on a male-driven show
Djaq on Robin Hood.
Day Six: Favorite female-driven show
Number #1 Ladies' Detective Agency! Xena as a runner up, at least for the first two seasons...
Day Seven: A female character that needs more screen time
ALL OF THEM. Ahem. I'm thinking this should go to someone whose interesting story just got stupidly dropped... Let's go with Lt. Damphousse from Space:Above and Beyond.
Day Eight: Favorite female character in a comedy show
Ahhhh frak. I should watch more comedy? That isn't Key and Peele?
Day Nine: Favorite female character in a drama show?
Pass for now. I don't watch that much drama.
Day Ten: Favorite female character in a scifi/supernatural show
Since that is mostly all I watch and read, there are too many choices and I must answer in depth at a later time.

Sooo many...
I really like female warriors and war leaders from societies where that isn't unusual, so let's go with Yeine Darr from N.K. Jemisin's The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms.
Day Eighteen: Favorite non-warrior female character
Need to think on this more, but I bet it'll be a scientist. Or Kasidy Yates again.
Although if Prime Minister Dihana from Crystal Rain by Tobias Buckell counts (she's involved in a war...as a political leader...) she might win from sheer force of awesome.
Day Nineteen: Favorite non-human female character
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome GLEE SHOTH is. (From N.K. Jemisin's The Kingdom of Gods)
Day Twenty: Favorite female antagonist
Probably Azula.
Also all the ladies who are maneuvering against each other in The Burning City: Akua, Lana, Nahoa, the fire priestess whose name has escaped me... argh the rebel leader whose name has also fled my brain...

Day Twenty-Two: Favorite female character you love but everyone else hates
Day Twenty-Three: Favorite female platonic relationship
Day Twenty-Four: Favorite female romantic relationship
Definitely Jessaline and Eugenie from "The Effluent Engine" (N.K. Jemisin again!), but there are tons of runners-up from the excellent pair of Steam-Powered anthologies.
