Guy and Marian
Apr. 6th, 2013 09:22 amWell, first of all, if I were Guy and/or Marian, I would at some point end up pulling a Gwen from Galaxy Quest: "No! I refuse! THIS EPISODE WAS POORLY WRITTEN!!!"
Thus far what I have seen in S1 is that the relationship conflict isn't so much a love triangle as a thing where Marian wants to be on Robin's side to do Good, but Robin keeps harassing her and acting like four-year old. I don't feel like they have any chemistry at all, or rather they do, but it's not that kind. It's basically an internal conflict for Marian between working Within the System vs. abandoning it... Which is pretty awesome, actually, but the show seems to want me to think that romantic feelings matter a lot and that I should be rooting for Robin/Marian. Which...no.
Being with Guy is part of Working Within the System. And there is a possibility that it could be enjoyable and emotionally satisfying (in an incomplete and ambiguous sense), because yeah, Guy is using her, but he also cares about her and wants to make her happy. It's probably doomed from the start, and it's definitely doomed from "A Thing or Two About Loyalty" on...
At that point the question is whether or not Marian's position lets her be a valuable spy. Or at least that should be the question for this resistance movement. I suspect I will be disappointed by how they handle it.
