Mermay in July I guess / Ariel, etc.
Jul. 4th, 2019 06:54 pmJudging by the twitter acct I've been using lately, which isn't even really set up to pay attention to this kind of stuff,* we're looking at many months of people using the new Little Mermaid movie to remind the internet about awesome Black actresses who have played Ariel on stage or played other princesses, as well as cosplayers and tons of amazing art of Black mermaids and magical girls and and and yay!
I don't think I posted anything on here for Mermay, but I remember a couple of cool things:
Briana Lawrence, creator of Magnifique Noir, sells (cute!) stickers of the characters as mermaids with tail color patterns reflecting their respective queer identities:

Marcus Williams, creator of Tuskegee Heirs, did a series of awesome mermaid art:

(I was looking for a thread of all of them, or a gallery, but I haven't found it yet...)
*But fans of The Dragon Prince are mostly interested in diversity and rep and awesome Black characters
