There are sooooo many news stories (like, on internet news places, mostly, since that's generally whence comes my news) that are transparently racist, and pushing narratives to support institutionalized racism and distract from actual problems caused by real people with actual power, that now my brain thinks every. single. story is like that.

Apparently there was small (white) girl who "won" a "staring contest" with (African) lion. WTF?!?
That's totally a racist narrative, right? And possibly animal cruelty? No, I'm not going click it and read it, but it's in my brain anyway.

There's also the problem of "This is not news, and no one in the mainstream media is reporting on large swaths of (especially economic) news. But yeah.

I guess this isn't not a book review, of sorts.

Dear Most Admirable Internet Acquaintance,

I have come rushing home to say,

I have read a story
in the lesbian steampunk anthology
Steam-Powered 2,

"Grenada's Library."

It is about women
who are brave and wise and strong and faithful
and old and frail and doubtful
(and also girls
who are brave and revolutionary
and very foolish).

They are Christians and Muslims and Jews
and secularists
and heretics
and lovers

They are leaders
(and followers, and saboteurs, and mechanics)
and they are,
first
and last
and in their pure, true Selves

Librarians

and so I thought of you.
